ALERT - Increase in overdoses from bad drugs

December 11, 2020 - Path 525 has reported an increase in overdoses requiring breathing support in the last couple of days.

“Yellow Down” and “Kool-Aid Blue Down” may be contaminated with benzos and appear to be very toxic right now.

Police have also reported an apparent surge in drug related deaths from December 4th – 11th, 2020.

Ensure you take precautions to reduce your risk of overdose.

Reduce your risk

  • Use the Supervised Consumption Service - Path 525 (open Monday - Saturday 10am-6pm @ NorWest CHC)
  • Start low and go slow (e.g., with every new purchase, start with 1/3 of a normal dose)
  • Avoid using drugs at the same time if using in a group
  • Carry naloxone (available free from the Health Unit [621-7861] and most community social service agencies and pharmacies).
  • Call 911 if someone develops signs of an overdose

Signs of overdose

  • Impaired breathing, loss of consciousness, inability to talk, blue fingernails or lips, or loud snoring or gurgling.
