July 2, 2021 - As part of the accelerated second dose strategy for COVID-19 vaccinations, the Province has confirmed second dose eligibility for youth ages 12-17.
As of Monday July 5, at 8:00 AM, anyone, including youth aged 12-17, is eligible to receive a second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Any second dose appointments must be at least 28 days following the first dose.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC) have opened up additional appointments at both the CLE Coliseum and Bora Laskin Building for the coming weeks to accommodate this expanded eligibility. Eligible individuals can book appointments online or by calling 1-833-943-3900. Both clinics will have Pfizer vaccine available for youth.
TBDHU continues to strongly encourage anyone 12 years and older to get their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine if they have not yet received this. Appointments can be booked through the same link as above.
In the District communities, the local Family Health Teams continue to deliver vaccine clinics, using the expanded criteria. For individuals in the District, please visit the TBDHU website for additional information and links to the Family Health Teams.
In addition to COVID-19 immunization clinics, individuals can also arrange for appointments at select pharmacies in the TBDHU area. For youth immunization, select a pharmacy that has Pfizer vaccine. Pfizer vaccine is currently the only approved vaccine in Canada for youth 12 to 17 years.
Continue to follow the TBDHU website and social media channels for more information and announcements on the COVID-19 vaccine rollout.
