Daily update on the status of COVID-19 in the Thunder Bay District Health Unit

December 3, 2021 - Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) is reporting 34 (thirty-four) new COVID-19 case in residents in the TBDHU Region. Current active cases is 127.

In addition, through data quality checks, 1 case reported previously by TBDHU was removed from the TBDHU case count. This will be reflected in the overall case count today.

TBDHU Advising against non-essential travel to Minnesota and other nearby states

December 2, 2021 - At this time, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) is recommending that all residents avoid non-essential travel to Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. This is regardless of an individual’s vaccination status. These states currently have the highest rates of COVID-19 in the United States and the rates are considerably higher than those in the TBDHU area. In addition, public health measures are also different in these areas and are generally looser than those in TBDHU and Ontario.

In addition, through data quality checks, 1 case reported previously by TBDHU was removed from the TBDHU case count. This will be reflected in the overall case count today

COVID-19 outbreak declared at Mahmowenchike Family Development Centre (St. Ann)

December 1, 2021 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) confirms that an outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at Mahmowenchike Family Development Centre (St. Ann School location) in Thunder Bay.

At this time, two individuals associated with the Child Care Centre have tested positive for COVID-19. The initial public health investigation has shown that at least one of these individuals likely acquired the virus in the child care setting.

C. Difficile Outbreak Declared: St. Joseph’s Hospital (4 North)

November 30, 2021 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and St. Joseph’s Care Group have declared a C. Difficile outbreak at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Thunder Bay.

The outbreak is restricted to the Hospice/Palliative Care unit (4 North) Admissions/discharges and transfers are temporarily on-hold. Visitors to the unit are not limited at this time, however, all visitors must check-in at the nursing station when they arrive.

COVID-19 outbreak declared at Step by Step Child Care Centre (Arthur St.)

November 27, 2021 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) confirms that an outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at Step by Step Child Care Centre (Arthur St.) in Thunder Bay.

At this time, two individuals associated with the Child Care Centre have tested positive for COVID-19. The initial public health investigation has shown that at least one of these individuals likely acquired the virus in the child care setting. Others who may have been exposed (high risk contacts) will be contacted by public health.

COVID-19 Outbreak Declared at St. Ignatius High School

November 27, 2021 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board confirm that an outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at St. Ignatius High School in Thunder Bay.

At this time, two individuals associated with the school have tested positive for COVID-19. The initial public health investigation has shown that at least one of these individuals likely acquired the virus in the school setting. Others who may have been exposed (high risk contacts) will be contacted by public health. Impacted classes and cohorts have been dismissed.
