Blue-Green Algae Identified at Shelter Bay on Lower Shebandowan Lake

August 20, 2021 - The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has confirmed the presence of blue-green algae in a water sample collected at Shelter Bay on Lower Shebandowan Lake on August 9 2021. It is important to remember that water should be avoided whenever a blue-green algae bloom is present, and for about 2 weeks after it has dissipated.

Lyme Disease Positive Black-Legged Ticks on the Rise in Thunder Bay District

August 17, 2021 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) is reporting that 62.5 percent of black-legged  ticks (BLTs, formerly known as deer ticks) collected via active surveillance this year have  tested positive for the Lyme disease bacteria, Borrelia burgdorferi.
 
This is a significant increase in comparison to previous years where approximately 10 percent of BLTs tested positive for Borrelia

Daily update on the status of COVID-19 in the Thunder Bay District Health Unit

August 17, 2021 - Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) is reporting 1 (one) new COVID-19 case in residents in the TBDHU Region. Current active cases is 2.

In addition, through data quality checks, 2 cases reported previously by TBDHU were removed from the TBDHU case count. This will be reflected in the overall case count today.
