COVID-19 Outbreak Declared Over at Sherbrooke Public School

March 11, 2021 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and Lakehead Public Schools confirm that the outbreak of COVID-19 at Sherbrooke Public School in Thunder Bay is now over.

The period of heightened surveillance due to the recent cases at Sherbrooke Public School is considered over. No additional cases of COVID-19 have been identified and there is no evidence of additional spread within the school setting.

Medical Officer of Health Extends Suspension of In-Person Learning

March 10, 2021 - Due to the significant number of cases of COVID-19 in Thunder Bay, the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Janet DeMille, is directing schools in the City of Thunder Bay and surrounding areas to extend the suspension of in-person learning until March 29, 2021. The need for further extension will be considered closer to that time. This direction was communicated to the school boards through a Letter of Instruction, issued under regulations of the Reopening of Ontario Act, 2020.

COVID-19 outbreak declared at Schoolhouse Playcare Centre (Ecole Elsie MacGill School Location)

March 8, 2021 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and Schoolhouse Playcare Centre (Ecole Elsie MacGill School location) confirm that an outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at the facility in Thunder Bay.

Consistent with provincial guidelines, an outbreak is declared in a child care centre when there are two or more COVID-19 cases that can be linked within the setting. At this time, one additional individual associated with the child care centre has tested positive for COVID-19. This individual is deemed to have acquired the infection in the facility.
