September 5, 2023 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and Southbridge Lakehead, confirm that the respiratory outbreak, located at 135 Vickers St. S, has been declared over. All outbreak restrictions have been lifted.

TBDHU recommends the public refrain from visiting hospitals, long-term care facilities and other high risk settings when feeling unwell to avoid spreading infections to those most vulnerable and at higher risk of severe outcomes.

September 1, 2023 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and St. Joseph’s Care Group, located at 35 Algoma St. N, confirm that a respiratory outbreak (COVID-19) has been declared at St. Joseph’s Hospital – 5 South - Geriatric Assessment & Rehabilitative Care.

There are restrictions on admissions, transfers, discharges, social activities and visitation in the affected area of the facility until further notice. Please call the facility for more information.

September 1, 2023 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and St. Joseph’s Care Group, confirm that the respiratory outbreak COVID-19, at St. Joseph’s Hospital – 2 East – Mental Health Rehabilitation, located at 35 Algoma St. N, has been declared over. All outbreak restrictions have been lifted.

August 31, 2022 – For International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD), local organizations and community members will be gathering at Paterson Park from 11am to 2pm to share information on available supports, provide overdose awareness training and free naloxone, and to pay tribute to those who have died or suffered permanent injury from an overdose. A candlelight vigil will be held in the evening. It is a day for people to mourn loved ones in a safe environment, show support, acknowledge that every person’s life is valuable, and work to reduce the stigma of substance use.

August 30, 2023 -  The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has confirmed the presence of blue-green algae in a water sample collected at Hazelwood Lake on August 24, 2023. It is important to remember that water should be avoided whenever a blue-green algae bloom is present, and for about 2 weeks after it has dissipated.

August 22, 2022 – Healthy Kids Thunder Bay is hosting a community barbeque today at Minnesota Park (277 Pacific Avenue) at 3:30pm to celebrate the creation and expansion of resident-informed programming and health services made possible because of a grant received from the Public Health Agency of Canada.
