Positive COVID-19 Result From Surveillance Testing at Pioneer Ridge Long-Term Care Home

June 7, 2020 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) is investigating a case of COVID-19 that was reported this weekend. The individual is employed at Pioneer Ridge Long-Term Care home in Thunder Bay.

Pioneer Ridge recently tested all staff for COVID-19 as part of the enhanced surveillance initiative currently being implemented in Long-Term Care facilities as part of the provincial testing strategy. The case reported yesterday is the only positive result received at this time.

Fort William First Nation Drive-Through COVID-19 Testing

May 26, 2020 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU), in partnership with Fort William First Nation (FWFN) and the Superior North EMS Community Paramedicine Program, will be conducting COVID-19 testing this weekend at the FWFN Community Hall at 400 Anemki Drive on Fort William First Nation.

This testing will take place on Saturday, May 30, 2020 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. FWFN members living on reserve are eligible for testing. The testing will be completed while individuals remain in their vehicle. Further instructions will be provided at the time of booking.

COVID-19 Outbreak Declared Over at Hogarth Riverview Manor

May 15, 2020 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and St. Joseph’s Care Group announce that the outbreak at Hogarth Riverview Manor (HRM) is now over.

On May 2, 2020, one staff member at HRM tested positive for COVID-19 and an outbreak was declared. Provincial policy states when one staff or resident in a long-term care home is positive for COVID-19, an outbreak is declared. The outbreak can be declared over when there are no new cases after 14 days of the last shift worked by the staff member.

Low Risk Exposure at Walmart – Memorial Avenue, Thunder Bay

May 14, 2020 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (“TBDHU”) is in the process of investigating a case of COVID-19 diagnosed this week. The individual is employed at the Memorial Avenue Walmart in Thunder Bay.

TBDHU has investigated the potential for virus transmission and have determined that customers who were in the store or used Walmart Pickup service on May 3rd, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th, 2020, may be at risk. TBDHU is also following up with Walmart regarding other staff who may have been exposed.
