Thunder Bay District Health Unit Reports First Death due to COVID-19

April 24, 2020 - Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) is reporting the first death in the TBDHU region related to COVID-19.

A male in his 50s, with underlying health conditions passed away last night at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre due to complications from COVID-19. Out of respect for the family of this individual, no further details will be shared at this time.

“This is a sad day. We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the individual who passed away,” says Dr. Janet DeMille, Medical Officer of Health.

Like many of you, I spend a lot of time thinking about COVID-19. I go to work and read the latest updates and try to find ways to get through my day in one piece. I also think a lot about what it’s like for someone who doesn’t work at the Health Unit who has to navigate through the abundance of information on their own. Who has the virus? Where is it? What does that mean for me? Can I go outside? Can my neighbour? These are some of the questions I imagine are running through your head.

Drive-Through COVID-19 Testing Spots Available This Weekend

April 23, 2020 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU), in partnership with the Superior North EMS Community Paramedicine Program, will be conducting COVID-19 testing this weekend at the TBDHU office at 999 Balmoral Street, in Thunder Bay.

This testing will take place on Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26, 2020. Appointment times are available, individuals with ANY of the symptoms listed below are encouraged to contact the TBDHU at (807) 625-5900 or 1-888-294-6630 and they will be considered for testing this weekend.
