February 7, 2022 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and Shelter House Thunder Bay announce that the outbreak at the facility, in Thunder Bay is now over.

Prior to the outbreak, significant measures were already in place to reduce the likelihood of transmission of the virus within the facility. Expanded precautions were implemented for the duration of the outbreak.

COVID-19 Outbreak Declared Over at Southbridge Pinewood

February 7, 2022 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and Southbridge Care Homes announce that the outbreak at Southbridge Pinewood, Sandpiper Unit, in Thunder Bay is now over.

Prior to the outbreak, significant measures were already in place to reduce the likelihood of transmission of the virus within the facility. Expanded precautions were implemented for the duration of the outbreak.

TBDHU Further Expanding Walk In Opportunities for COVID-19 Vaccine

February 2, 2022 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) is announcing that, effective February 3, 2022, anyone eligible for a COVID-19 vaccination can walk-in to the CLE Coliseum Clinic in Thunder Bay, regardless of which dose they need. This expansion of walk-in opportunities builds on the announcement from last week and now includes:

  • Anyone 18 years and over – for booster doses
  • Children 5-11 years old – for second doses

These were the only two remaining groups that still required appointments.

COVID-19 Outbreak Declared at Pioneer Ridge – Plaza 1

February 1, 2022 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and the City of Thunder Bay confirm that a COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Pioneer Ridge, Plaza 1, in Thunder Bay. TBDHU has initiated a thorough assessment of the situation. Further measures will be taken as needed to manage this situation.

Thunder Bay Correctional Centre Outbreak

January 31, 2022 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and the Ministry of the Solicitor General announce that the outbreak on the male side of the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre is now over. This outbreak was initially declared on January 17, 2022

Unfortunately, a new and separate COVID-19 outbreak is being declared on the female side of this facility. TBDHU is working with the Ministry of the Solicitor General to manage this outbreak.

TBDHU Making it Easier to Get COVID-19 Vaccine

January 26, 2022 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) is enhancing walk-in opportunities to make it more convenient for individuals to get immunized against COVID-19.

Effective tomorrow, January 27th , anyone 50 years of age and older can walk-in for a booster dose at the CLE Coliseum Clinic in Thunder Bay. In addition, first doses for children ages 5 to 11 years old are available by walk-in at the CLE Heritage Building Clinic.

Drug Strategy Advisory: Presence of Etonitazene identified in sample of drugs seized by Thunder Bay Police

Purpose of this Advisory

January 25, 2022 - We have been advised by the Thunder Bay Police Service that a pink like rock substance containing fentanyl has come back with a synthetic opioid also present. The substance was seized in September 2021 and then tested by Health Canada’s Drug Analysis Service; a high potency synthetic opioid known as N-Pyrrolidino Etonitazene was present in the sample. It is the first detection of this substance of concern in the Thunder Bay area.

January 24, 2022 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and Chartwell Isabella Retirement Residence announce that the outbreak at the facility, in Thunder Bay is now over.

Update: Southbridge Roseview – Champlain and Primrose Units

January 24, 2022 - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and Southbridge Care Homes confirm that Southbridge Roseview, Champlain and Primrose Units, in Thunder Bay, are no longer considered to be in outbreak.
