Adjustment to confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported by Thunder Bay District Health Unit

August 27, 2020 - Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) has been advised that a recent positive test on a TBDHU area resident was incorrect due to a technical issue at the lab that analyzed the test. This lab is in southern Ontario and not one of the labs in our area.

Repeat analysis of the initial sample and a repeat test done locally were both negative for COVID-19.

This individual is no longer considered a case and will be removed from the case count provincially and from our reporting on the TBDHU website.

Blue-Green Algae Identified at Warnica Lake

August 26, 2020 - The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has confirmed the presence of blue-green algae in a water sample collected at Warnica Lake on August 13, 2020. The MECP is conducting toxin analysis on the water sample. However, it is important to remember that water should be avoided whenever a blue-green algae bloom is present, and for about 2 weeks after it has dissipated, regardless of the toxin analysis results because blue-green algae can turn toxin production on and off in response to environmental conditions.
