Public Health Nurses (PHNs) partner with elementary, secondary, post-secondary, and alternative education institutions throughout the Thunder Bay District to support healthy learning environments, student well-being, and school health priorities.
Using a Comprehensive School Health approach, PHNs work collaboratively with educators, administrators, students, families, and community partners to identify needs, strengthen school health initiatives, and connect schools with relevant programs, services, and resources.
Public Health Nurses can support schools with:
- School health consultations and planning
- School-wide health promotion initiatives
- Student engagement and leadership opportunities
- Mental health and well-being promotion
- Healthy relationships and violence prevention
- Substance use, smoking, and vaping prevention education
- Healthy eating and physical activity initiatives
- Connections to TBDHU programs, services, and resources
- Support for implementing school health priorities
